No mention of immigration issue in first debate for US presidential election?

Well, it did come as a surprise for all that immigration issue was not discussed during the debate. President Obama had wisely announced in a timely manner about the deferred action for childhood arrivals policy.

In an interview on Monday 1st October 2012 the Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney had told The Denver Post newspaper that he would not allow the deportation of illegal immigrants who have paid for a deferral of any action to deport them.

This promise seems to put Mr. Romney at odds with his running mate, Paul Ryan. Since this program was introduced for young illegal immigrant from being deported for two years upon paying a fee Mr. Romney has said ‘the people who have received the special visa that the president has put in place, which is a two-year visa, should expect that the visa would continue to be valid. I’m not going to take something that they’ve purchased.’

Mr. Romney has also added, ‘Before those visas have expired, we will have the full immigration reform plan that I’ve proposed.’ But in contradiction his running mate Paul Ryan, the Vice-Presidential Candidate told voters in Lima, Ohio that they were planning to ‘undo’ the DACA program.

Mr. Romney has said within a year in office as US president he would reform immigration and not like Obama who didn’t keep his promise on the same issue. Also Mr. Romney seems to be not clear of his own reform legislation as he had previously suggested illegal immigrants who served in US armed forces might be allowed permanent residency. Well, my guess is as good as yours about what the President elect would do about the immigration issue. Let’s wait and see!
